XVII : Traces of Indonesia - Tirta Empul & Rice Terrace

Time to check out and next stop would be Ubud. On our way, we dropped by to a few spots. Tirta Empul Temple which also known as Tampak Siring Temple would be one of them. It is a holy spring water temple located in Tampak Siring Village, Gianyar regency and it is about 39 km eastwards from Denpasar town.

In this inscription, the Tirta Empul is named by the Tirta Ri Air Hampul and then the name has changed into Tirta Hampul and finally become the Tirta Empul. Tirta Ri air hampul is meaning the water emerge or the holy pool (Petirthan) which is the water emerge from the land.

XVI : Traces of Indonesia - Sailand for Kopi Luwak

If I am hardworking enough, I might be able to finish the entire Indonesia backpacking entries by this week. At the rate that I am working on these handful of photos, indeed its a killer but well, each and every of the pictures brought back a lot of memories. I did enjoyed myself during this trip but there was something bothering me which I lost it when I landed back in my home land. Well, looking at these pictures reminded me of a lot of stuff.

Anyway, welcome to Sailand! Yes, this place is called Sailand.

XV : Traces of Indonesia - Mount Batur Aftermath

Hello again Mount Batur, after the conquer

We stayed here, Hotel Surya. To be honest when we reached at night, this place looks eerie with no lights were turned on and indeed many funny stuff crossed my head.

We then had our breakfast before we even clean up! We were all so hungry that we can eat cows! While waiting for our meal to be served, as usual, photo taking would be the only pass time.

The overall of Hotel Surya, a good place to drop in if you would like to conquer Mount Batur like we did. After all, we spent only 4hours of sleep here!

XIV : Traces of Indonesia - Mount Batur

I still can't believe I did this. Sat did shared with us the itinerary but I never bother to check it out. Little did I know that we were gonna hike a semi active volcano! Anyway, we took a van to the foot of the mountain to our accom, Hotel Surya. We reached the hotel after dinner and it was kinda dark already. Once we were allocated the rooms, I zonked off totally.

Guess what?! I would consider this trip as a hard core one. We were asked to get up at 3am! With lack of sleep and everything else. After washing up, Ai Ling and I dozed off. The place looks scary to me. But who cares, I was too tired to think of anything. Lights off and that't it. I slept after midnight hence waking up at 3 made me so reluctant and I remember telling Ai Ling asking them to carry on with the hike as I left my jacket behind. Imagine, 3am itself was freezing cold. I can't imagine what will happen to me when I reach the peak.

After doing the second thought, while still in a daze, I wash up and got up to the van. The starting point of the trail wasn't far. I consider myself lucky cuz there were windbreaker for rent! Right let be it. Grab one and put it one. Gosh it was so dark! Like I can anything but paddy field and I remember seeing some onions planted as well. A dark ascending journey. Little did I know that I was actually going up to a semi-active volcano. What a challenging task! Carrying food, water and camera in the bag.

The hike took us about 3 hours whereby it was just in time for us to catch the sunrise.

The wind was so strong and I was totally wrong about removing my windbreaker!

The hike going downhill was a lot faster but slippery.Due to that, while going uphill, my shoe was konked and the helper gave me his! I felt so super bad and due to that I decided to buy 4 bottles of coke from him which cost me RM8 per bottle. It was the sincerity and his help actually.

XII : Traces of Indonesia - Uluwatu

In order to enter the temples, we have to at least dress decently, a form of respect at sacred places. Hence, all of us had to put on a sarong, probably we don't look decent enough in our attire.

Well, woman touchy man at sacred places!

As soon as the last person, got the sarong on, it started to drizzle! . . . from then, the sarong was used to cover our cameras. Nothing else matters!

Standing at the edge was pretty scary with the wind blowing so strong! Nevertheless, I love how it feels. Sound of the waves hitting the rocks, strong wind blowing, drizzling and having hell of a hard time covering my DSLR.

What if . . . well just jump!
Guess what?! Its INDIAN OCEAN baybehh! I never know of Indian Ocean until I flew across it when I was on my way to Perth. Now, this is a different perspective.

VIIII : Traces of Indonesia - Goodbye Jakarta, Hello Bali!

Anyway, this it Bloem Steen Hostel, the place where we stayed in Jakarta.

This is what we call backpack :)

Anyway, the price of a taxi to the airport is kinda standard, whereby we will be charged 140,000 Rupiah each.

Guess what?! Backpacking with style also mean we will be taking Alphard to the airport, with Wi-Fi in it! Tell me you are envy!!

VIII : Before Jakarta

Before boarding for Jakarta, we headed for lunch. We told the driver to bring us to some lower profile places. We wouldn't wanna spend more as there are at least 4 more days left for the trip.

Fruit tea,something which they are famous for and I like the feel of drinking from a bottle.

Ordered Bakso Pisah and this is how it looks like.

Priceless moment with David.Upon Bakso was served, there were limes (not sliced) as well. 3 David (cluelessly): "What is the lime for?" Me: Its for the soup. The next thing he did was, he threw the lime into the soup!(Thanks for the laughs!)

Upon reaching the airport, again, we decided to turkified our bags.

The flight from Yogyakarta to Jakarta toko us about an hour plus if am not mistaken.Welcome to Jakarta folks. Needless to ask, I've definately slept on the plane until it touched down. Hence, no pictures of the flight :)

It was pouring so heavily . . . and I felt turbulence too. I was sleeping, remember?And the least expected incident occured. My turkified bag was wet...slightly!!

VII : Traces of Indonesia - Taman Sari Water Castle

The king's playground in short @ Taman Sari Water Castle. One of our last stop before leaving for Jakarta on the Day 2 in Indonesia. I find it really cute to read those signs in Indonesia. Motor parks are known as Parkir Roda 2, and this made me ponder if there are Parkir Roda 3,4,5? LOL.

Mie Tunggal Rasa. Single taste noodle? Simply ironic.

In order to enter, each of us are required to pay the entrance fee of 7,000 Rupiah and if you are entering with a camera, it will cost each of us an additional of a thousand Rupiah which summed up to 8, 000 Rupiah. A thousand Rupiah is about RM0.40 (that's my rate) hence its RM3.20 for the entrance and a partial donation for them to maintain this place. To cheap, no?

... there goes my nail polish. They got chipped off during the trip. Well, there was a guide to bring us around the castle while explaining and telling us the history of the place. He is so generous to do this without any pay. He started to tell us about the place but I was not paying any attention on that. I feel bad now cuz if you really want me to tell whats this place all about, I'll probably spare you the Wikipedia.

While shooting, I noticed something floating on the water.

Pity the little rat.... and hence, this is the huge pool which the King of Yogyakarta built. This is the tower where the Sultan was able to watch his concubines bath naked in the pool. Interesting fact!

I can't be bothered but to cam-ho around the place. I know its vain but what to do?! Its in the blood.

There was this little plant around the pool with red-tiny-fruit. He then picked one and squeezed the juice on my nail. Its a bit sticky. According to him, long ago, it was used as "nail polish" to the olden folks. I guess I can start planting them at home. Save the trees and save money!

Right! Its Aaron again. I think we both walk really slow. Not really. I observed that he is always in my pictures in all our trips! WHY?!

Guess whats this? Well, obviously its a bed. Its actually the Sultan's bed with holes below it for them to warm their room by burning aromatic leaves or etc. Ancient kind fragrances.

Here is the exact spot of the Sultan where He gets to enjoy Himself watching his concubines having fun in the pool. There is another pool, so called private pool which will be used by the Sultan to have fun with the selected concubine. Sounds interesting, no? Hmmphh, frog style were practiced long ago.

PRAMBANAN TEMPLE

Also known to be the tallest, most beautiful and largest Indian temple in the world. In order to do less typing, I have being extremely nice this time as I have inserted the link of the history of Prambanan Temple.

V : Traces of Indonesia - Yogyakarta at night

Have you ever wonder how is Yogya after the sun has set?

Let me show you :) Malioboro, a place for us to mingle around or maybe to get to know the place better. We were like wolves, hunting for food to ease hunger!

The super cheap satay. Not that meaty but it taste more like chicken skin or fats but its super cheap! 4,000 Rupiah for 10 sticks. Well, I hope its chicken. I was like how can it be so cheap?! But again, for people like us, we are not afraid of eating those food sold by the roadside. If you have a weak stomach, I don't suggest or you'll probably need to carry charcoal with you. On top of that, our Pharmacist friend is not with us for this trip. Even we do have charcoal or Pil Chi Kit with us, so far, we have yet make use of it.
I do not remember what exactly the name for the colourful kuih, since I'm here, Imma gonna try all these kinda funny delicacy. Just be nice to my stomach :)

To be frank, I do not know exactly what the ingredients are. I remember bread crumbs, jelly, and the hot ginger soup! If am not mistaken, Yogya is famous for this.

This thing was kinda interesting. We stood there watching for quite a while. Just that there was this thing called "twister" with no safety belts or anything but your arms to hold on to the planks. Dare to try? I was too tired for anything. All I had in my head was, hot shower, aircon and bed!

IV : Traces of Indonesia - Candi Mendhut

CANDI MENDUT

Another ultimate temple. We dropped by to visit after Borobudur. After looking visiting Borobudur, Mendut does not bring you that "wow" feeling as its way smaller than Borobudur. Its just a very tiny temple, stand alone architecture. The weather got gloomier, whereby it was drizzling upon getting down from the van ; but nothing else could stop us :D

III : Traces of Indonesia - Candi Borobudur

One of the tips that I might share would be:* Whenever you visit UNESCO places, remember your student ID. It might help you to save a sum. Just like what I did and FYI, I was no longer a student that time :P
CANDI BOROBUDUR

The temple located in Magelang, Java Tengah which everyone is talking about & famous for. Its a must to visit. I believe regardless which website you surf, whenever you google for Yogjakarta, Borobudur comes with it. Borobudur is the biggest Buddhist temple in the ninth century measuring 123 x 123 meters. It was completed centuries before Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Can you feel the excitement of seeing the Borobudur temple from afar like I do? Well, the entrance alone cost me USD11. Hence, besides Rupiah, do spare some US dollars too. Anyway, they accept Rupiah as well, hence there is nothing to be worried. According to our tour guide, this corner would allow us to have the best shot of the temple.

Gosh! I actually visited this place 6 months ago, that was when I still have my long fringe. How much am missing it now.
A tour guide is needed in order to understand the place better and a tour guide would cost 75, 000 Rupiah.

Lion Gate Guardian

The weather was being really nice to us. The dark clouds were seen afar but not a drop of rain until upon leaving. Well, this Buddhist temple has 1460 relief panels and 504 Buddha effigies in its complex. Millions of people are eager to visit this building as one of the World Wonder Heritages. I didn't expect myself being able to visit one of the World Wonder Heritages :)

The overall architecture is amusing. Don't you think so? Borobudur was built by King Samaratungga, one of the kings of Old Mataram Kingdom, the descendant of Sailendra dynasty. The base of Borobudur, called Kamadhatu, symbolizes human being that are still bound by lust. According to Lambang, our tour guide, he mentioned that there were sculptures of Karma Sutra as well. They actually covered it up as this place is open to the public as it is not suitable for kids.

The upper four stories are called Rupadhatu symbolizing human beings that have set themselves free from lust but are still bound to appearance and shape. On this terrace, Buddha effigies are placed in open space; while the other upper three terraces where Buddha effigies are confined in domes with wholes are called Arupadhatu, symbolizing human beings that have been free from lust, appearance and shape. The top part that is called Arupa symbolizes nirvana, where Buddha is residing.

Actually there is a long history on this temple. It is actually a Buddhist temple. Borobudur lay hidden for centuries under layers of volcanic ash and jungle growth. The center of power moved to East Java region and a series of volcanic eruptions took place.

It is believed that, by standing at the lowest platform and you stretch your hands. If you are able to touch the Buddha's statue and make a wish, your wish would come true. Don't know how true it is but I managed to touch :)

Borobudur differs markedly with the general design of other structures built for this purpose. Instead of building on a flat surface, Borobudur is built on a natural hill.

II : Traces of Indonesia

WELCOME TO YOGJAKARTA!

Follow me and I'll bring you to the traces we've been throughout our trip to Indonesia.

After we have touched down at Adisucipto Airport, we headed to where we stayed, a place called Delta Homestay. It is located approximately 30 minutes from the airport. Well, the buildings and everything in Yogjakarta resembles a little bit of Cambodia though or maybe its because its IndoChina.

The journey to Delta Homestay were quite interesting indeed. Managed to catch a glimpse of the town of Yogyakarta before I dozed off. Yes, I was still sleepy! All I remember was, Delta Homestay is located in some narrow road named Jl Prawirotaman. The driver helped us to unload our bags and Satkuru got the rooms allocation done. Two to a room and again, aL, my sleeping partner. When we were given our room keys, it took me awhile to search for my room but what attracted me most is, the swimming pool is just right in front of my room. How nice! My room was the last, located at the end of the building compared to the others. A simple room with a bed and a bathroom, with a sink outside. The room cost us 150, 000 Rupiah per night but it cost me only RM27 when its shared by 2. On top of that, we have aircon too! As usual, we will be given a buffer unloading and refreshment time before heading out. Hence, Borobudur, here we come!

On our way, we did stopped at some camera shop (forgot what the name was) as our forgetful Angeline left her D60's battery at home! YES, AT HOME! No choice but to purchase one over in Indonesia. My main intention was to get a local prepaid card, so that I am able to call the loved one (used-to-be) which we managed to find a super tiny warong-fied prepaid stall . . . and since then, we were geared with Malaysian and Indonesian number without being worried about the roaming charges.

The journey continued, leaving Yogyakarta heading off to Java Tengah (if I am not mistaken) and into some kampung areas until we reached a beautiful restaurant to my very least expectation. How can I actually expect to see such a nice looking restaurant behind a plain white building? No way! ... and there goes, exploring the local delicacy. When Imel's mum came to Penang, she made me Gado-gado, which I have been missing it ever since. Hence, Gado-gado it is :) We dined in this place called Sekar Kedhaton. I came to a point having difficulty in pronouncing Indon names now.

Before food was served, we definitely won't be sitting down quietly but behaving nowhere close to baboon. Instead we mingled around at the same time, snap some pictures of the place.

Guess what?! If I don't picture this, I don't think I can even remember the name of this restaurant.

Till now, I still can't digest this statement. Can anyone enlighten me?

Food was pleasant, not bad and we swapped some as well while looking at the scrumptious meals others were having. On top of the main meal we ordered, we were given bottomless keropoks with sauce. Yums! Looking at the pictures reminded me of how it tasted.

I : Indonesia it is!

Last year was Cambodia, a great and stylish backpack indeed. As we departed from Siem Reap, we flipped through the AA mag checking out places and hence, Indonesia it is for Jan 2010. I didn't expect that it really happened. Thanks to Satkuru for all the arrangement and the team for the fantastic trip. It would have been better if I traveled with my loved one :P

Being a bit baboonic when entering a neighbour's country ... Funny how things happened.Its the second time traveling with these bunch of bloggers a.k.a Shouters ; and I can never doubt that I might died of boredom with their company. First was Cambodia, which was approximately a year ago when I got freaked out with the traffic in Phnom Penh and fell for the night life in Siem Reap. I know I should have gotten this entry up long ago or maybe completed the entire Indonesia backpack journey way before Philippines started. I am finally back from Philippines and yet, I have not even started Indonesia's a lil bit. Hence, I shall kick it off now or otherwise never. LOL.

Its the second time traveling with these bunch of bloggers a.k.a Shouters ; and I can never doubt that I might died of boredom with their company. First was Cambodia, which was approximately a year ago when I got freaked out with the traffic in Phnom Penh and fell for the night life in Siem Reap. I know I should have gotten this entry up long ago or maybe completed the entire Indonesia backpack journey way before Philippines started. I am finally back from Philippines and yet, I have not even started Indonesia's a lil bit. Hence, I shall kick it off now or otherwise never. LOL.

Besides such adventurous backpacks, it indeed gave me a lot of "first time" experience. Before I start, flaunting pictures of the trip, I would like to thank Satkuru and Angeline for the plans and arrangement, which I enjoyed myself best, "Backpacking with Style" where we eat and sleep like Kings & Queens!

This year indeed would be a brand new year for me, where I finally finished my degree, and started off with my first ever full time job :) I just started of with 2 weeks and upon my boss were to hire me, I told her in advance that I need to take 4 days off. LOL. She gladly approve, otherwise, I might as well gave up the job. XD It was a Tuesday when we were supposed to leave for KL from Penang (applied for Penangites only) as we needed to catch an early flight to Yogjakarta the next morning. The flight was scheduled at around 10.45pm, where I left office at 9.25pm which I still need to head home to collect my ready-packed back-pack before heading to the airport. Little did we know, the damn flight was delayed to an hour later. Pffft! ...which we only managed to reach KL before 1am. I dozed off as soon as I got up the plane. Who cares about turbulence and all those bumpy flight when you're dead tired!

As soon as we touched KL, it felt real good to see the KL folks again, which certainly reminded me on how much fun we had in Cambodia. Aside from being really drained out, I felt rather excited as I have never been to Indonesia, not even a single time. We were hunting for seats around the airport but little did we know that the airport can be fully occupied! Those who managed to conquer the seats slept on the chair, for those who don't, they slept on their surfboards! Okayyy... nothing is left for us but Old Town, our regular time-killer place to go whenever we are at LCCT. Those who were hungry, they fed themselves well enough before getting back into position to hunt for seats around the airport again! We were hunting with our bags till we gave up and gave ourselves away to the super cold floor. It was super duper cold! As soon as asses were landed, they were frozen! Lack of sleep can take me nowhere far, and I definitely need to recharge for the next day which require lots of walking. The last person I saw before my eyes were shut was Satkuru. There goes, in my t-shirt and shorts on the freaking cold floor, with no blanket. That was the moment when I was wanting a surfboard so much.

I got up (intermittent) as I was freezing cold and how I wished so much that someone would be here to wrap around me as well as for the trip. Anyway, bygones are bygones. We were allow to check-in at the kiosk and it was my first time doing so ever since AirAsia implemented. Upon checking-in our bags, a random thought of "turkeyfying" our bags crossed our mind. Hence, RM9 for the wrapping service, as we have heard lotsa breaking baggage stories happened in Indonesia.

Breakfast was at McD, something usual and probably the only thing we eat in LCCT. I was too excited to board. Can't wait to board, can't wait to touch, see and feel Indonesia. The journey from KL to Yogjakarta takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes. I slept till we landed. The airport is smaller than Penang's, and the next usual thing I would do at the airport would be - searching for WIFI! They do have WIFI though its small and humble. Yays to WIFI, especially FREE WIFI!

... and being ignorant, Angeline and Satkuru arranged the transportation for us to move about in Yogjakarta. If my memory did not failed me, it cost us about 70,000 Rupiah per person which sum up to 700, 000 Rupiah for the ride as there were 10 of us for this trip to Yogjakarta. (I guess you can do the convertion yourself) Its a ONE DAY ride including petrol to wherever we desire. Can you guess how did an absent minded person like me can remember the prices of the rental?! ... because ... I was the so called appointed treasurer again (the last time was in Cambodia)! While waiting for our Kia Pregio, there was this urge to answer nature's call. At first, we were looking for the "Toilet" sign in whatever manner they are, whether the logo or the word but we failed to and guess what, the first ever word we learnt as soon as we touched Indonesia is "Karma Kecil", yes, and that means TOILET in Bahasa Indonesia. (Ermmm... you can give yourself a pat now as you have learnt a new word in Indon after reading this entry)

Along the way, I managed to snapped a few pictures ; for instance like Rumah Sakit Dr. S. Hardjolukito :P

and another funny sign which says, "Dilarang Kencing".WTH! I din know there are people who pee along the fence! This is indeed new to me!

As for Yogjakarta, its only a day that we are gonna spend here and there goes . . .

Hiatus with the kids

The idea of heading down South came from me, not entirely but at least, I contributed partially especially when Sook Wan took few days off just to attend her convo. The rest of the colleagues and I were not firm with the idea until we decided to purchase the ticket and hence, since then, the plan had been fixed. As expected, this trip ain't any shopping trip but to actually bring the kids to PetroSains. I know it sounded completely like doing the nanny's job in the weekends. We took the earliest flight which required me to get up at 5am and reached there at about 8am. The first stop will definitely be KLCC. To my surprise, I bumped into Naby at Kinokuniya. Such a small world.

Oh, well. It was still kinda cool for a super short hiatus like that. How I wish for something more.

Going around doing random snaps as a past time, why not?

The weather was indeed hot, but windy.

A bunch of random people were seen waiting patiently for the unfortunate fish.

At the same time, I do wish owning a 55-200mm myself ... Grrrr . . .

But nevermind, I still feel flattered owning just kit lens :)

Finally, I found time to myself and for myself. Needed one badly and I am still looking forward to a getaway with the special someone :P Soon to come, my second half of the year would be fully occupied by work, traveling and if possible, him :)

Despite the fact that the water is kinda dirty, I saw a child who is probably 3-4 years (I don't know) soaking in the water! Somewhat their parents are not worried about them getting flush away by the current or something. Weird!

There were not any emas! You wanna know why they call this "Telaga Emas"? Well, its time for you to visit Pulau Aman, even for once, in your entire lifetime :)

Bangkok : When the City Glows

Its a Sunday, this also mean that its my only day off in a week. I admit I have been spending to much time at work and it has come to a point whereby its not healthy for me. Wait till I go for a medical check-up then only probably I might be able to elaborate further on what I am going through. Anyway, since I get to wake up later than usual without force of the alarm, thats when I have the time to update my dead blog :)

Come to think of it, I was indeed lucky for being able to see the beautiful side of Bangkok; if its compared to the current situation that's for sure.

It was super tiring as the Sky Walk seemed never ending. But along the way, the pedestrian will be entertained as well. Songs were played all along and it really gave the Christmas ambiance even though we were still in an Asian country. LOL. Bangkok is a shopping paradise ; a fact that I am not able to deny, which it was kinda wasted as we were not able to make it for the Chatuchak Weekend Market which is also known as Mother of all Markets. Can you imagine?

There are a gazilion shopping malls in Bangkok which I doubt that we were able to pay a short visit to each and every of the malls.

Never ending Bangkok :) I have probably took too long for this but well again, I seriously work really hard on allocating time for this. Here it comes again, the continual entry of Bangkok.

We decided to head on to Floating Market, something which Thailand is famous for and voila! There it goes.

We did a lot of walking this trip and there are a lot of things I encountered, which at the same time, I found that they are way more creative than we do!

The pink van attracted me! Yea! How I wish I have a pink caravan which I can use it to travel around. Plus, Mr.BF loves pink too! Eat,sleep, shit in the van! LOL

Don’t remember what time I slept the night before. Dozed off while I was repeating Ne-Yo’s “Together” on my pink iPod. I have assigned this song to Richard whenever he calls me on my mobile. At least I managed to have a better rest this time, but din really sleep well too. I got up at 4 in the morn, washed up and looked out of the window. Random thoughts again … “What if there’s a lady in white with long hair stands in the middle of the railway?” Of course I don’t wish for one, but “WHAT IF?” ! Then I continued sleeping.

In the midst of my sleep, I heard a voice calling me, thinking that I was still in my dreams but no. My mum was yelling my name as she din know which bunk I was. Waking up in Thailand ==” FML and knowing not which part to be exact! Dad ordered breakfast for me. I am probably the last to get up. I wish I could sleep in till 12pm but its bumpy and noisy too! Breakfast cost 90baht each. Nothing fantastic. I can make better ones!

We reached PakTho at 9.25pm and headed to Bothakro, and yet we were few hours away from Bangkok. I was sitting alone with my earphones and dad came by which we ended up talking about my career, as I just completed my Degree. I was kinda reluctant, thought I’ll be able to have a break from work and study finally, and again, I was wrong. Tried so hard to change the topic but he insisted and eager to know while I was enjoying the view of paddy field while repeating Kylie Minogue’s “Especially For You”. I told him, one day, I might move in into a village and enjoy a kampong life. Sounds great isn’t it? Maybe I can puff at my verandah, barbeque at my front yard with a few buffalos staring my way.

I dozed off, again. Finally, we got to Bangkok at 12.20pm!

We were hungry!

Initially when we reached, the ticket counter were empty.

The little one was rather excited. The first thing we did after getting off the train was to search for the Ticket Counter, wanting to get our return ticket. Trying so hard to communicate with them as most of them still do not speak English. The next thing, I was told that train ticket sold out! WTF! I need to get back by Monday! Checked with the travel agent and I was told that flight tickets are SOLD OUT too! Last resort was to catch the bus, which I will be heading home a day earlier that the rest. Being a seasoned traveler, I am not afraid traveling alone. I hate waiting! I was told that it will take approximately about 18 hours to reach Penang! Another FML scenario! It was so hard for me for not swearing that time and I can’t do it in front of my parents! Efff emm elle! Anyway, I am left with no choice anyway but the bus.

The next thing after grabbing tickets was . . . FOOD! Oh, food glorious food.

Headed to The Black Canyon for pastries! Caught a cab which amazed me so much to our guest house. I was amazed by the colours of the cabs. They have PINK, ORANGE, GREEN, BLUE & PURPLE Toyota Altis as cabs! Mr BF has a BLACK Altis which I actually fancy the ones I saw here more than his! Sorry, hun! *just kidding*

MBK, which is one of the malls available, is just a fart away! I heart my sis so much for getting such close accom! My pocket is gonna hurt this time! There are so much to see, so much to buy. MBK was our starting point which we are able to walk from one mall to another! On top of that, the Christmas deco did not disappoint me at all.

Year End Escape: Bangkok - Day 1

Yes! I have finally completed my final assignment and am ready to go. Nowhere far this time and Bangkok is D name. Honestly, I have not been to Bangkok and this would be my first. Daddy got really sick of it but we got excited when we were told that we are heading there for the weekend. It’s a week before Christmas and I believe there will be really nice Christmas deco along the street in the city. Xherlyn got really excited as her main objective was not exactly to spend quality time with the family. Instead, she actually bought the ticket to watch Miyavi live in Bangkok; a fan meeting session. When she told me, I was amazed. I never have some celebrity that I adore that much! Right. Happy for her that she finally met him once (at least) in her life time. LOL

Managed to capture a few pics at the railway!

Well, this time, we decided to catch the train. I know! Superbly long ass aching journey! But since Wendy made the call, hence we pleased her this time. Okayy. Probably just this time! Thinking of the (approximate) 22 hours journey really did freaked me out totally! TOTALLY! I was thinking to myself, what if the train breaks down? That will take more than an effen day to reach Bangkok! No way! If you are wondering, the train ticket cost RM102 one way, from Butterworth to Bangkok but cost a bit higher (approximately RM152 for the return ticket from Bangkok back to Butterworth). I might consider taking the train to Singapore one day. Haha!

and YES! I reached Bangkok safely in this metal box!

I felt as if I left a part of me in Penang, again… the same thing happened when the last time I went Singapore. Something which I won’t ask myself why. Chose not to know what’s the reason. I seriously know not how to live without the internet! Fortunate to have a phone which am able to reply some mails and check on my Facebook! I know! I am a Facebook addict! Don’t have to remind me that. LOL. I, randomly camwhored in the train and decided to post it up on FB which it managed to fetch a number of comments at the end of the day! LOL.

Anyway, we departed at 2.20pm from Butterworth. It was kinda interesting an adventurous at first. It would be nice if I have a boy around to travel with. ROFL. (Something which I have been wishing for all these while. *hint hint*) The last time I took the train was at least 5 years ago when I took the train from Arau during when I was serving for National Service.

Anyway, I thought we would probably reach at least the Thai border by dusk but I was so wrong ==” wtf! We were only at Padang Besar by dusk and finally reaching a small town named Khlong Ngae at 7.25pm. I slept a few times, got up a few times, yet we were still way far from Bangkok. Worst of all, dinner sucks big time ! FML!

Well, the long journey did not do much harm. During the journey, there were a lot of things which crossed my mind. Everything which had happened this year probably make me wiser *hopefully* and it will be remain as the past. As soon as it strikes 10pm, the attendant came making up our bunks for us. I slept far away from my parents, at another far end near an American couple. Honestly, I envy what I saw.

I remember I was missing someone so badly when I was trying so hard to sleep!

Some got themselves ready to rest, some were still playing cards, and some were snoring away. I can’t really sleep, which led me to blog through my phone. As soon as I was on roaming, phone calls keep coming in and I received SMSes from some friends, which I decided not to answer as it will cost me a bomb if I do so.

I know this trip wouldn’t be close to any hard core trips, probably taking it as one for me to take a breakaway from home. *sigh* Its gonna be a hardcore shopping trip!

P/S: I hope my decision is wise!

Genting Highland: Part 1

It was an ac-hoc trip when we decided to hover over the the higher land for a mini hiatus. I supposed everyone is uberly stressed out as each and every of them are workoASSlick. Anyway, it was mum's birthday. Hence I rushed home right after work just to have dinner with the rest before departing at 11pm.

These bunch of crazy people really gave me a splendid trip.

Just look at this alone.

A 6 hours ride on the bus ==" The last time was a 7 hour hourney from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and I thought that would be my last to be sitting hours on a bumpy ride. I was proven wrong! We arrived at 5am, chillin' cold and I love it. It would be great to have a cup of hot coffee sitting in the cold enjoying the chilly wind brushing on your cheeks. But we kinda decided to take advantage over the only guy in our trip =)

And this would be our very first group picture up on the World of Entertainment.

It was super misty out there and we have to wait till 2pm before we can check-in. Gawdd! Have to carry our bags around =( Anyway, we came across this restaurant where they have a collection of spices and all.

Welcome to Thailand!
I am finally stepping my feet into the land of ~~prostitution~~ . . . erm elephants? I don't know. So what's famous in Thailand? Let's not ask me. Anyway, this is a super mini hiatus, a 2day-1night trip. Thanks to Alton for driving and showed us around as he is a frequent visitor in Hatyai.

We are not signing up to go for a prostitution interview. Its just an embarkment form! Funny it may seemed as I filled in for Imel and she was filling in for me. How random!

We left Penang at 7am and headed off to the Thai border. This trip is pretty interesting =) We actually reached at about 11am if am not mistaken. Managed to check-in into the hotel at the same time our stomachs were growling already. Headed down for McThai! I know many were surprised that I was in Thailand. I was a lil' stressed out and I was at a point whereby I need a getaway and there I were, in Thailand. I bought a Thai sim-pack to call home and a few important people and friends. And till now, I don't even know what is my number! I did texted a few friends and some of them dare not reply as they were afraid if they were spams! (*You know who you are)

And thats when we finally gear up with our slumber-lazy-casual wear to walk around. It has been a decade ago since I last visited Hatyai!

The sights in Hatyai somewhat reminds me of Cambodia and how much I miss Sister No.1, 3, 4 and Brother No. 1 & 2! LOL

At least it ain't that dirty as I thought. I always have this perception towards Hatyai that its very dirty and dusty like Cambodia but it somewhat turns out to cleaner. This really amazed me! As for this trip, I was the only one taking photo, like some sohai as the rest do not stop by to capture any sights!

The tuktuk here is 4-wheeled, which is different compared to the 3-wheeled tuktuk in Cambodia.

From this angle, it somehow looks like a kereta jenazah! Anyway, we went for a full body massage at Aladin, a place where you can hand pick any girls you desire for a massage service. I know deep inside Alton, he wanted more than just a massage. ;P The full body massage lasted 1.5 hours, and it cost us 300 Baht each, 200 Baht for the service and 100 Baht as tips. Anyway, this is my first time having a massage with guys in the same room! The last full body massage I had was in Cambodia and I foresee the next one would probably be in Bali if no one is going with me after this.

The weather was pretty fine the next day in the morning. As we were staying at 29th floor, lucky enough for me to have a great view of the land of elephant!

As I was viewing my hundreds and hundreds of Gb of pictures, I realized that I still haven't finish my entry on my visit to Cambodia and hence, we have reach the end of the Cambodia trip. Goodness me! Here it is, my super duper delayed entry =)

Singapore Day 6: Bugis

[as they have left this wonderful island on this day which is my 6th day in Singapore]

I took the MRT from Newton to Orchard then waited for Imel & Juan at Lucky Plaza ; right in front of the Sex Shop to be exact. Initially we planned to watch movie which we ended up in Bugis by bus.

Wows! If Han Yee were to take the bus then it will only be 40 cents! Okaylah. Make it 45 cents =)

When we are not allowed to stand at the rear, we insist to stand there!

Superbly tired after walking for the entire day. Hence, we wanted to get home, which we stupidly waited for the bus at the wrong side of the road =.=

Day 3 in Singapore: Dinner with Bee!

Monday, 09032009 : It was a rainy day! Tremendously I got lost in the lion city and got 4 times of ERP deduction! Lunch with Bee was supposed to be at 12.30pm, which ended up at 1.30pm as I got lost. Anyway, I found my way in the end, so at least I managed to have lunch with him and Aunty Lily. After lunch was picking Melvin up from Changi Airport. Then back home, parked the car, walked to Newton MRT, bought my Ezylink card and took the train to Ang Mo Kio.

Han Yee and Imelda have been craving for Sticky Rice and Mos Burger.

They stopped everywhere to eat! Yummmehh!~
Anyway, my bad.
In the end I did not have dinner with them but got home before Bee got back then dinner with Bee! XD

He took me to Miss Clarity over at Purvis AGAIN!
I have no idea why but he loves this place but this time, they changed the Menu.

Sunday Stroll

Two Sundays back was interesting. By the time we woke up, it was already lunch. When everyone were ready to go, we headed to Orchard, d place that Han Yee wanna be! LOL.

I suppose this uncle had appeared in many tourists' camera.

Anyway, we decided to eat at Food Republic. As I saw a stall which is selling Tomyam, I was not hesitate to but try!

Once I tried, it was a big ReGrEt!
It was nothing near Penang's!
So, forget it =)

I was surprised when I saw the sweet sauce pink in colour, initially when I was in Singapore for the first few times. But now, it looks really nice cuz I like pink and I don't eat it!

It was a day of walking in and out of every retail store ranging from Louis Vuitton to Coach and from Coach to Tiffany & Co. until a point where Bee really can't walk! YES! That was serious. He was trying to be a doctor himself by pulling out the in-grown nail he has on his right toe. It got swollen so badly and he told me, "Shopping for today is enough! I can't do it anymore!" Hence, I took him to a clinic, not exactly nearby but located over at Bishan. Quite a distance though. Waited for the doctor and well, he got it done by cutting the edges or the nail! Forget it! Super gross! . . . which in the end, I have to help him to nurse his toe until it stop bleeding after a couple of days!

The beautiful flower does not represent any R.I.P but it was given to me by a Product Advidor as I walk pass the concourse area before leaving for the clinic =)

In the end, we had dinner at home. Thanks to the availability of the stored canned food at home as well as Jecelyn. Hence, we had home-cooked-canned-food as Bee can't walk.

I still have not visited Zara and my shopping stroll ended tragically =(

Clinic, Clarke Quay

I have been wanting to try or just to drop by and pay Clinic a visit long time ago. I just made it . . . finally!

Its a super good place to chill.
As a typical tourist, we brought cards over. Then the waiter came to us, "Sorry, cards are not allowed!" @#$% Whoops! We are in Singapore, aren't we?!

I think its more expensive than my blood as I give away so much every month. Its just that I don't pack it like that.

Sentosa Island, Singapore!

Well, the in thing for today would be visiting the Sentosa island. Hence, being a super nice BF, he took over the responsibilities to bring my friends around. After lunch, we drove in instead of taking the monorail. My first time driving into Sentosa actually.

Err... It was not this merlion who got struck by the lightning. Each time I go Sentosa, it will definitely rain! Driving will cost you quite sum as you'll need to pay the entrance fee for each and every person sitting in the car as well as the car. SGD$ 2 for each pax and SGD$ 2 for the car itself.

Hence, we hop up to the bus which took us to the Siloso Beach.

A bunch of tourists wanting to wash their hands but I don't get it why they got to the shower head, whereby there were to be a higher potential to wet themselves!

So like I said, we flew . . . The only flight left for tonight would be from Penang to JB.Though it was a bit expensive as we only manage to buy it this evening but its better than risking our lives for a late night 9-hour bus to Singapore . . . and hence, I went Singapore with Han Yee and Imelda!

The one hour and five minutes journey was fine.It took off and landed smoothly.I did try to sleep on flight but I couldn't maybe I was too excited to surprise my BF! I told Richard that I will be going to Singapore this weekend most probably saying that I will take a flight on Saturday morning but instead I was earlier.

They were playing till we landed in JB and we took a cab over to Singapore which took us another hour. On my way, I called Rich asking him what is he doing, pretended as if like every other night when we were on the phone but this time with him not realisingly that I was on my way to his place. LOL. I called him again to come home and that time, I was standing at the lobby of his house already. LOL! We went out for supper right after dropping our luggages and well, again the first place he always take my friends to would be GEYLANG! Unfortunately, it was a friday night and hence Geylang was so super packed and we couldn't get ourselves a place to park. Then we decided to go for my delicious crispy prata over at Bishan!

Cambodia: Day 5 in Siem Reap

Finally I have reached Day 5 of Cambodia and again, there are 51 pictures in this entry =) So, bear with the duration of downloading the page. Well, I know how sad to part with Cambodia as we will be going home the next day. After days of adaptation, and when we finally got used to the environment, that's when we have to bid goodbye to this wonderful-dusty land.

Anyway, in Day 5, we woke up early and had a approximately 2-hour drive, for a hike.

After the 3-hour hike, we headed for lunch at the nearest restaurant available and the food was good! I love it.

Yupss... after a long day, its time for a hot bath back at the guest house and I think I did not post the picture of our room. So, here it is! You can now start guessing who is sleeping on which side of which bed =)

After the hot bath, we headed to one of the orphanage, something that I did not expect, honestly but I am glad I was there.

They are not sent to the orphanage but were found by the roadside or market. They are the victims of the land mines and one of them lost his leg due to that.

Their rooms, the study corner and the environment they are staying in. Its just like a kampung we have back here.

We shared some money and donated 100kg of rice to the orphanage.

The next very thing we did in Cambodia was a FULL BODY MASSAGE!
To be frank with you guys, that was my very first time having a full body massage and the experience was . . . tremendous! LOL! aL initially don't wanna go for it. But well, in the end, she went for it as well.

Right after the massage, we told the driver to recommend some good places for food. A good dinner at least and he brought us to this place. He told us Khmer Restaurant but there were plenty. Hence, we simply chose one and headed in to fill our empty growling stomaches.

Would you love to be massage by the blinds? They will touch and feel you, but they won't see you =)

This Rooftop Bar & Grill really did attracted me. But all I can do now is to pray, hoping that it will still be there the next time I go Cambodia.

Something that we would not missed after strolling around the happening area. . . we went to the night market again! Well, how would I forget those little souvenirs for my mates?!

Oh, I am so missing Cambodia now!

Cambodia: Day 4 in Siem Reap

Another interesting day in Siem Reap without realizing that we will be heading home in another 2 days time. How time flies. We have been enjoying so much that we don't even remember the day and dates! LOL.

We got up at 5am today. It wasn't because of insomnia and this is really not common for me to get up at this hour. But knowing the objective, I feel its worth waking up at 5am. We finally stepped into the Angkor Wat, like those you always see on postcards! We were there with the purpose to capture the sunrise but it seems that, unskilled photographer like me was there for the sake of taking the picture as I can never get nice picture like them. Remembering that JJ told me on my face that pictures I took are not nice, which I have already gave up on SLRs.

Then we went back to Jasmine Lodge for breakfast and returned to Angkor again! Well I think its time for you to enjoy the pictures as I don't remember where/what.

Finally I get to sit. What a relief!

Hot like mad! Yup, we are back in Angkor Wat again!

But after getting up to there, I got to see nice views too.
I was so windy that I can doze off anytime.

This is the steepest of all steepy stairs. It was initially open for public but due to some unforeseeable reason, it was closed.

We took a tour around the entire place. If we were to play 'hide & seek', I bet we won't be able to find any of us!

After a day of walking and climbing, I believe its time for some good food for dinner. Dinner was at Amazon Angkor Restaurant located at Salakanseng, Sway Dangkum. Some sort of international buffet serving variety of food.

At the same time, there will be performance from the locals on Khmer dance. 40 dancers, singers and musicians will perform 3 Palatine and 2 village dances. The first was the 'Best wishes dance'. Traditionally, this dannce is performed to give blessings to kings, country leaders or official guests visiting the country.

Coconut dance
No, not girls in coconut shells but using the shells to rap a rhythm for the dance. This dance is from south-eastern Cambodia and is performed at wedding ceremonies.

Mekhala Dance
A metaphor for the victory of good over evil ; which armed with a crystal ball casting rays of lighting, the goddess of waters Moni Mekhala triumphs over the demon Ream Eysaur, whose axe creates thunder.

Fishermen's Dance
This dance is a lesson of love and courtesy.

Every gestures in the palatine dances symbolises something for instance the stem, leaf, bud, flower in the bloom anf fruit.

Well, enough of eating and dances. With a stomach filled with food, we headed to the night market for souvenirs =)

It somehow made me feel so different ; the texture, the building, the carvings especially.
